Vidarbha farmer’s suicide issue is now part of Delhi University foundation courses

Vidarbha farmers suicide and agrarian crisis will appear as part of a text book for academic purposes for its foundation course, ‘Geographic and Socio-Economic Diversity’ (English & Hindi) of The University of Delhi is implementing the Four Year Undergraduate Programme from July 2013, in which 11 compulsory Foundation Courses will be taught at all colleges of the University as per letter received from Delhi university authorities to Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti(VJAS) farmer’s advocacy group documenting farmers suicides since 2004 ,here is letter received from the university of Delhi and

Subject: Seeking permission to reprint Essential Reading material
Dear Mr. Kishore Tiwari,
The University of Delhi is implementing the Four Year Undergraduate Programme from July 2013, in which 11 compulsory Foundation Courses will be taught at all colleges of the University.
The ‘Essential Reading’ for each such course has been carefully selected amounting to about 150 pages. Each course, aiming to enhance student learning, will use the Essential Reading as a platform for projects and presentations.
The University of Delhi seeks permission from the publisher/copyright holder of the following item:

to publish it as part of a text book for academic purposes for its foundation course, ‘Geographic and Socio-Economic Diversity’ (English & Hindi). I write to you to seek your permission at the soonest so that we can have the book published in time for the new academic session in July 2014.

The text book commissioned by the University of Delhi and undertaken by a duly appointed editorial board will be published for sale at a low cost, affordable by students.

West Vidarbha is cotton growing region on Maharashtra where farmers are committing suicide due to prevailing distress and despair due to mounting debt, crop failure and poor market price to raw cotton ,UPA Govt. released special PM relief package in 2006 and mega debt waiver in year 2008 but it failed address the core issue of crisis and farm suicide are till continued .more and more research and documentation are being done but Govt. is not keen to give healing relief to 3 million cotton farming community of west vidrabha, now farmers are very happy to see new NDA Govt, and expecting ‘era of despair and distress’ will end and they will be having good days ahead, Kishore Tiwari of VJAS informed in press release.
