UPA’s Last shocker Maharashtra 10 Million Maharashtra distressed Farmer’s by ignoring Minimum Support Price (MSP) Issue
Nagpur-7th May, 2014

Outgoing UPA Govt. has strike last blow   to debt trapped around 10 million cotton and soybean growers of Maharashtra state mainly from crisis driven and farm suicide hit Vidarbha and Marathawada when recommendations of the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) has recommended Rs.50 to Nil hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) to main cash crop cotton, soybean ,paddy and pluses (tur) for next khariff season 2014-15 which was made public just before Loksabha poll in vidarbha and marathwada region adding fuel farmer’s unrest against ruling Govt. CACP  recommendation are contradictory to base formula of calculating cultivation cost and deciding MSP and announcing the MSP when CACP chairman Dr.Ashok Gulati has already announced the plan to step down in February last in ill intended ,will ruin the complete agrarian economy of region hence mahrashtra farmers urged Indian Govt. to ignored these CACP recommendations ,Kishor Tiwari of Vidarbha Jnandolan Samiti informed in press release today

‘In fact CACP has rejected Maharashtra state Govt. proposal  from last three years v.i.z. 2012, 2013 and 2014 couple with recommendations given Dr.M.S.Swaminathan  as chairman to calculate minimum support price (MSP) and long pending main demand of more than 10 million Maharashtra cotton farmers demand to hike minimum support prices (MSP) of main cash cotton, soybean ,TUR and paddy will add fuel to despair of the distressed  farmers who are under severe agrarian crisis and committing suicides as 90% are being forced to take crop loan from private moneylenders or financial institutes hence we are requesting union Govt.  to relook  CACP MSP fixed for 2014-15 and revised it to for   cotton @Rs.6500/-,soyabean@Rs.5000/-,pluse(Tur) @Rs.5000/- and paddy @Rs.2500 per quintal in order to avoid  another spiral farm suicides in Maharashtra  , informed  Kishore Tiwari of VJAS in letter to Indian Govt. with copy to Maharashtra  chief minister .
‘We are shocked as farmers were expecting realistic  minimum support price for main cash crop like cotton and soybean in this election year 2014-15 but Babus and corporate have over powered the politicians this decision has l certainly damaged  victory  prospect  of UPA in forth coming elections but unfortunate part that NDA has no time to focus the core issues of  Indian rural economy allowing the agrarian crisis to spread over the other part of India Earlier in may there was a time  for state intervention when The Agri. Ministry has sought views of state governments on the issue and has circulated a Cabinet note among various ministries recommending MSP to get minimum support prices (MSP) corrected as per formula set by Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) which is consider complete cultivation cost, all overheads for cultivation, average market price, and added to it profit for farmers but  Maharashtra Govt. failed to correct the MSP of cotton and soybean   resulting    Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP) to govt. ahead with its recommendations where farmers are  left with mercy of market forces and CACP has protected  private corporate and market traders  hence we are raising issue distressed and debt trapped 10 million Maharashtra farming community which are victim economic recession after WTO free trade policies by the UPA resulting  ongoing farmers genocide ’ Tiwari added.

‘These is minimal hikein MSP  to main cash crop like cotton and no hike  soybean is result complete apathy of all political parties who are very keen to start  agitation demanding the  hike the MSP at the time of arrival of crop but CACP says they can’t change the MSP at this stage hence this right time for all political parties and activist group working farmers to take up issue of cotton and soybean MSP issue otherwise  farmers are likely to be  subjected to market exploitations forcing them off load cash in throw away prices forcing them to suicide and this genocide is continued since 2002 after India adopted open trade policy hence we are urging Govt. Protest Indian farmers but our demands are ignored all the time ’ Tiwari  added.
